1:1 English GCSE Tutoring
Extra support adapted perfectly for your needs and ability!
In my 1:1 tutoring sessions, I will cater for you or your child’s individual needs, rather than jumping straight into lessons. This offers students a unique tutoring experience as it caters to each student's individuality and specific needs.
I will start by sitting down with the student and creating a list of their strengths and weaknesses, by asking them what they feel they can do well in English and what they feel they need to improve on. I will then use this to create a formal assessment which will further indicate if the student has any more strengths and weaknesses, and this will form the foundation of the sessions.
I will then create lessons based on the student’s weaknesses, through a range of resources including past papers, worksheets, and quizzes etc. For example, if the student was struggling finding the correct terminology, we would go through a range of different terminology and their explanations and how to pick them out in a sentence and/or text, and then go on to analyse it's effect and why a writer has used it.
We will then go back to the strengths and weaknesses list after a couple of lessons, depending on if the student feels their individual goals have been met. We will then focus on any more weaknesses that the student or tutor may feel they have. We will then move on to exam preparation and/or further developing English Language and Literature skills.
In the exam preparation, we will look at past papers and a number of different resources, to help us tackle a variety of questions. This will be done systematically, as we look at how to structure answers and use the mark scheme to assess what answers examiners are looking for. We will look at both good and bad example answers so the student can grasp the depth of knowledge and language that they will need to achieve their target grade.
In GCSE Literature, we will pay particular focus to the text that we have studied to answer thematic questions, focusing on terminology and wider reading to tackle questions.
In GCSE Language, we will focus mainly on retrieval skills. This will focus on us paying attention to the question and picking out key information to help answer each question. We will then focus on the creative piece of the text and how to structure and format a newspaper article, letter, or story etc. Making sure they understand how to use persuasive language to achieve their target grade.
